Words from Their Excellencies Sybil and Tosti

As we move into the depths of winter and the nights grow longer, we will gather in just one week’s time for
Wintersouth—a celebration of companionship, warmth, and the simple joys of sharing good food, good drink,
song, and friendly competition. If you have not yet booked, we would love to have you join us for this
wonderful event.
As many of you know, our Barony is growing steadily. Growth does not happen on its own—it is built by the
efforts of the people who give their time, skills, enthusiasm, and care. Just as importantly, it is sustained by
recognising those efforts, by letting people know they are valued, that their work is appreciated, and that their
contributions make a real difference.
It was wonderful to see so many people at our recent gathering, sharing ideas, lending hands, and simply
enjoying each other’s company. Those moments remind us that while events and activities bring us together, it
is the people who create the community we all cherish.
As we look forward to Wintersouth, I encourage each of you to take a moment to thank someone whose efforts
you have noticed, to welcome someone new, to offer a helping hand where it is needed, or simply to share a
smile and a conversation. These small acts are the threads that strengthen the fabric of our Barony.
The weeks following Wintersouth will be just as busy. We will once again be taking the Society into the wider
community through our demonstration at the Huon Valley Medieval Fair. Public demonstrations are one of the
best ways we can share our passion, welcome newcomers, and show the breadth of what the Society has to
offer. Whether you are fighting, crafting, demonstrating a skill, or simply chatting with visitors, every one of
you helps bring our history to life.
Then, toward the end of next month, Baroness Sybil and I will be travelling to the Barony of Stormhold for the
Investiture of their new Baron and Baroness. We look forward to representing Ynys Fawr, strengthening the
friendships between our Baronies, and celebrating this important milestone with our neighbours.
There is much to look forward to over the coming weeks, and it is heartening to see our calendar so full of
opportunities to gather, serve, and celebrate together. I look forward to seeing many of you around the fire, in
the hall, on the range, upon the field, and at the feast, as together we celebrate another memorable Wintersouth.
