Greetings all.

We have had some opportunity to review the breadth of our Barony, and we are also reviewing the calendar of activities and meetings we would wish to attend. Ynys Fawr is brimming with activity in one form or another, which is wonderful to see. We are of a mind to be as accessible as we can be, to all within this Barony, however we also need to pace our activity to an even gait in order that we may continue this.
We have decided on certain arrangements that we hope the Barony will embrace in fairness to all of our members. It is already assumed that we intend to visit meetings in the Southern and Northern parts of the Barony when we can, but we may not attend them all.
It is also assumed that we will attend all events, and therefore we will endeavour for at least one of us but usually both of us to do so, and this is also our desire. We ask that all intended autocrats and event stewards present their intentions for holding events to the Baronial Seneschal in advance as much as possible. When and how this is to be done will be at the direction of the Baronial Seneschal.
However we do realise that as our Barony grows, so does the desire to hold events in all parts of the Barony, possibly with more frequency than before. Some of these events may in fact clash or be very close to another event or activity that we may already have promised to attend. We are therefore minded to look in favour on a case by case basis, at such events if they be of a small or casual nature, such as pot luck feasts or picnics. While we may dearly wish to enjoy these events also, we accept that we may not be able to attend all of them and do not wish to impede them, so we intend to consider giving dispensation to such events to be held in our absence. At such small or casual events, we strongly desire that there is a banner or similar symbol of the Barony present, to represent being a part of this Barony.

Greetings unto the Populace of Ynys Fawr,

I received the following missive from Lochac Kingdom Seneschal Catherine de Arc.

On the 1st of September all the new rules regarding indemnities and event memberships came into play within Australia.

Signing in Procedures Signing in is now required at ALL SCA events, meetings, practices and training sessions every week.

People who can prove both valid SCA membership and a valid indemnity sign the Member sign in sheet.

People who can prove valid SCA membership but not a valid indemnity sign the Member without card form but do NOT pay the $5 event membership fee.

People who cannot prove valid SCA membership sign Non-member indemnities and pay the $5 event membership fee.

Proof of Valid Indemnity Members’ indemnities now only last for one year rather than for the life of the membership.

A valid membership card alone does not prove that you have a valid indemnity on file. Knowing that you have renewed your membership within the last year is not proof the constable can accept.

However, there is an easy way to get proof of valid indemnity:

1 -Logon to the Membership Services section of the SCA Australia website using the following URL – http://lochac.sca.org/members.html

2 – Once you have logged in, select the option labelled “Update and print indemnity or change address etc. details”. This will take you to the membership update option with all your current details displayed.
Check they are correct, then scroll to the bottom of that page and tick the box indicating your acceptance of the indemnity and click the submit button.

3 – Once this is done a new page will be displayed at the top of which you will see a section labelled “Indemnity update”. Please print out this page and cut out the indemnity update part and stick it to the back of your membership card. Please note if you are updating multiple memberships you will need to print off the Indemnity Update page each time.

The pricing for our regular events has been adjusted accordingly please go to http://ynysfawr.lochac.sca.org/home/events/past-events/ for more information.

I understand this will affect many of us and thank you in advance for your understanding as we all get used to this.

In service,

Greetings from the Board of SCA Ltd to all Australian members,

Due to recent changes the SCA in Australia has experienced with regards to GST, insurance and the cost of complying with the requirements of the ATO and our insurer we need to raise the current membership fee to $30 per Australian member per year from the 17th August 2012. This amounts to a five dollar increase in the membership fee, of which $2.73 is to cover GST on memberships and the remaining $2.27 for covering the additional compliance costs and a small increase in cost of insurance. In addition, for those wanting to receive a paper Pegasus the amount for Pegasus has been increased from $20 to $22 to account for GST . Contributing membership has increased from $60 to $70 ($27.27 membership, $20 for Pegasus, $16.36 as a contribution, $6.37 GST).

As part of this change we will be suspending future multi-year memberships until such time as we can determine if any changes are needed to handle future price increases and the amount of time one of these memberships can be taken out for. Please note this change in price and multi-year memberships does not affect any memberships taken out prior to the 17th August 2012.

In addition, to the fee changes there is now a requirement from our insurance company to have all Australian members sign a yearly indemnity. Due to this requirement we have had to implement new policies to ensure all members have a valid and current indemnity. To ensure our members indemnities are current as of the 1st September 2012 we ask that all members do the following:

1 -Logon to the Membership Services section of the SCA Australia website using the following URL – http://lochac.sca.org/members.html

2 – Once you have logged in, select the option labelled “Update and print indemnity or change address etc. details”. This will take you to the membership update option with all your current details displayed. Scroll to the bottom of that page and select your acceptance of the indemnity and click the submit button.

3 – Once this is done a new page will be displayed at top of which you will see a section labelled “Indemnity update”. You will need to print out this page and cut out the indemnity update part and stick it to the back of your membership card. Once this has been done then on presenting your card at an event the constable will check your card to ensure your indemnity is current. Please note if you are updating multiple memberships you need to print off the Indemnity Update page each time otherwise you will have to reapply for a current indemnity for those you missed.

4 – If your indemnity isn’t current when attending an SCA event or activity then you will need to sign a Members without cards indemnity form. You will only need to sign the indemnity you will not have to pay the $5 fee as the membership expiry date on your card is proof of current membership.

The Board apologises for the inconvenience this may put people through but it is the only safe way to proceed. The Board therefore asks all members, in the spirit upon which our society was founded, to help us make sure we are properly covered by insurance for all the activities we enjoy as members and get the proof of indemnity added to your card.

Yours in Service,

Steven Baker

As our lovely seneschal just announced, I’m now the steward for the baronial investiture in October. As well, I’m acting Kingdom Herald, an active founding member of the canton of Lightwood, co-organiser of a bunch of activities down here, a local volunteer on a bunch of committees, and I’m self-employed and trying to earn a living. Something has to give sooner or later, so while I’ve still got some hair left I’d like to find a replacement for the role of Ynys Fawr Web Minister.

The job is pretty simple. You get a login; you log in to the website. You wander around through the pages checking that they’re up to date; occasionally you add new stuff. Also, you update the calendar, keep tabs on the Facebook group, make sure there’s nothing untoward happening on the mailing list, and keep in touch with the seneschal by email. Every month you do a report, and you endeavour to attend, either in person or via voice chat, the baronial meeting. Pretty simple, really.

If you want the job, all you need to do is demonstrate that you can handle computer stuff about as complex as Facebook, email and WordPress. WordPress is no more difficult than using a word processor, so don’t worry about that. I’ll train you, happily. And having the ability to communicate clearly in written English is a good thing too, but I don’t expect Mr Strunk or Mr White. Mr Stadlter and Mr Waldorf would be enough!

Contact me by email at eric@geeveston.net if you’re interested. Deadline is… oh, whenever, but so that David doesn’t worry too much, let’s say the 19th of August. That’s a Sunday, a month away. That’s plenty of time.

Please apply! Be an officer in this <del>man’s army</del> person’s barony!
